What’s Your Dream?

Here’s a picture of Janna Mock-Lopez, owner and publisher of Portland Family and Goodness magazines, and….me. I will try to not sound star-struck because here I am, a relatively new freelance writer standing next to a publisher! (And she’s very personable, warm, and quite a visionary for Portland.)

But this post is not about Janna (Sorry, Janna.) but about your dreams, desires and wishes. What do you want to do with your life today? I’m sure there are quiet ambitions you have that maybe you haven’t ever shared with anyone. Or are you the type that complains about why you can’t achieve whatever goal you have because of somebody elses’ fault, or the economy, or that you have small children, or whoever isn’t supportive of your aspirations? Stop…and think about what you can do today towards that goal? Make a phone call, do a little research, sign up for that class, or get out those art supplies. Just do it.

Last year, I pulled down a goal I had shelved high up in a dark closet, blew off the 16 years of dust, and opened it…figuratively, of course. I signed up for an online writer’s course. And my journal began. Was I scared? Did I doubt myself? Do I still doubt myself? Yes, yes, and yes. But I took the step.

What are your unspoken dreams? Courage is stepping forward even if you’re terrified. Be courageous!

oh the good ole dream…It took me 25 years to figure out what that dream actually was for me. I loved to "create" but struggled in every area I tried: acting, art, (certainly not musically inclined) – and then in the last few years I started to really notice my itch to write. I pushed it, squashed it really, for 2 years – down out of my thoughts and told myself to forget about it.

So, of course in November I quit pushing and I love it! It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but I enjoy every minute of it, even if my family think I'm crazy. It's just nice to have a place to put my thoughts. 🙂

Here's to us to keep it going!

Hmmm. Writing is it for me, too. I made myself over as an innkeeper six years ago and have had incredible success, but, until I get a book published, I will not be satisfied.

Ladies, that is so exciting to hear about your dreams. Heather, you're walking that way! I'll be back to your blog.

Alexandra, does the blogging help? I just want to encourage you even if you stumble a few times.

Oh, I LOVE blog posts about DREAMS! I'm a big advocate for writing down goals and reaching, stretching and achieving – even if they end up a bit different than initially intended. Thank you for the reminder. My dream? To slowly but surely finish the editing of my completed novel and get it PUBLISHED and READ by teens world-wide!

Mary Jo, you are well on your way! I will be able to say, "I knew her when she was NOT famous!"

    Thanks for stopping by!

I also love talking about goals and dreams! My dream was also to be a writer, and I've started to go after that by enrolling in a graduate program in nonfiction writing and working towards becoming a freelance writer.

I also have a more recent personal goal. I've recently become obsessed with the TV show Glee (Have you seen it?), and I'd like to sing one karaoke song well. I'm a pretty shy and quiet person, so this is quite a goal!

Also, good luck to everyone working on novels. That's a huge goal, and "my hat is off" to you for being in the middle of it!
